Discover Costa Calida - Spains Hidden Gem

Why Costa Calida?
The Costa Calida is the coastal area of the province of Murcia on the Eastern side of Andalusia. Although not as famous as its neighbouring Costa’s, Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, it still has a lot to offer and perhaps even more. Its lesser known status works to its advantage for being less crowded and more tranquil. Its claim to fame is the World Health Organisation declared it the cleanest and least polluted area of Spain. It also boasts itself as the home to the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest salt water lagoon. This ‘sea’ is great for all sorts of water activities and in the summer month’s heats up to the temperature of a warm bath. The Costa Calida offers the tourists a chance to relax on the fabulous stretches of beaches and gives the chance to discover the other side of the Spanish Costa’s and to realise the real Spain.
And the weather..?
The Costa Calida is a relatively large area stretching for 250km from the beach at Aguilas to the beach at El Mojon, just at the boundary of Alicante. To the north lies the Costa Blanca and to the south the Costa del Almeria. Murcia is the capital of the area, further inland, but other major towns include Aguilas, Cartagena and El Mojon. The climate works to the holiday makers advantage with at least 315 days of sunshine a year and maximum summer temperatures reaching as high as 35C! The Mar Menor is a geographical wonder in itself with 170sq.km of shallow waters separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow spit of land 22km long.
